Packaging, Chemical And Testing Compliance

The packaging rules, substance restrictions and test standards our export orders are built to - and the claims we do not make.

Three different things buyers call "compliance"

On a luggage order, compliance usually means one of three separate things: the rules your packaging has to meet, the substances your product is not allowed to contain, and the tests the finished case has to pass. They are evidenced by different documents and confirmed at different stages, so it is worth separating them before you ask a supplier for "the certificates".

The fourth item is origin: the documentation that proves where the goods were made. All four are settled at the quotation stage in our process, because the destination market determines which set applies.

Packaging compliance

These are the packaging regulations our export packing is produced to. They are stated here because buyers increasingly have to evidence them at their own end. Australia works differently again, and is covered in the next section.

The packing itself is built for a long sea route as well as for the regulation: a PE or PP dust bag on every case, non-woven fabric or EPE foam between nested cases, die-cut corrugated board or EPE foam at the wheel housings and handle mounts, and silica gel desiccant or an anti-mould patch in the interior mesh pocket to absorb the condensation that forms inside a container crossing the equator.

Australia: what actually applies

Australia regulates this differently from the EU. There is no mandatory product safety standard for suitcases, and the packaging regime is co-regulatory rather than legislated. What follows is what a buyer importing luggage into Australia should be able to evidence; it is a summary of publicly available requirements checked in September 2026, not legal advice.

What that means for an order from us: there is no Australian mandatory luggage safety standard to certify against, so physical verification relies on our in-house and SGS mechanical testing protocol below. We prepare the packing and origin documentation, and we declare the wood packaging treatment if your shipment uses timber. What we cannot do is carry the importer's obligations, because the Australian Consumer Law duty attaches to the Australian supplier. Confirm your own obligations with your importer or customs broker.

Testing the finished case

Our factory lab and third-party SGS sample testing evaluate physical durability across six mechanical benchmarks:

Finished cases are sent to SGS for testing. Those are test reports on the samples submitted, not a product certification, and component certifications belong to the component manufacturers. On an aluminium frame case, note that the roller-drum impact and falling-ball tests written for plastic shells are not applicable to metal-bodied cases - a point many quotations get wrong.

Origin and export documentation

DJI Luggage manufactures in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia, and Indonesian origin is evidenced by an Indonesian Certificate of Origin. We prepare that alongside carton marks and packing details as part of export documentation support.

Factory facts a buyer audit usually asks for: two 1,500-tonne injection machines with 100% in-house mould making, 80,000 units of monthly capacity (about 70% hard shell), over 100 x 40HQ containers a year, 75 staff, 14 years of group luggage manufacturing and this factory producing since 2025.

Destination requirements drive the packing specification. Tell us the market at the quotation stage and we quote the documentation and packaging set for that market rather than discovering a gap at shipment.

Programme formats, and where the obligations sit

The three ways a programme can start differ in how much compliance documentation has to be created. This is the practical difference, using the terms we actually quote.

ODM: start from a structure in production

Least documentation to create
  • The shell or frame already runs, and its test history already exists
  • What changes is branding, colour and packing
  • Sample development is 7-15 working days
  • Minimum order is 100 units per SKU

OEM: build to your own specification

New tooling, new test round
  • Your drawings, technical pack or reference sample
  • Tooling made in-house, on two 1,500-tonne injection machines
  • The applicable standard set is settled before sampling begins
  • Lead time is 25-55 days from deposit and approved sample

Private label: your brand from the first order

Your name on the product
  • Branding on the case, the lining, the hardware and the carton
  • Exclusivity on branding, packaging and colour
  • The underlying structure may be shared where it is an ODM base
  • Payment is 30% deposit, 70% balance

In all three formats the buyer is the supplier of record in the destination market, which is where the ACL, EU and US packaging duties attach. What changes is how much has to be built from scratch: an ODM start inherits a structure and its documentation, while an OEM programme creates both. We do not publish client names without that client's permission, or performance figures we cannot evidence. If your programme needs project references or a factory audit, raise it at the quotation stage and we will tell you plainly what we can provide.

What we do not claim

Buyers are shown a lot of compliance and environmental language that cannot be checked. We would rather state the boundaries of what we can evidence:

If your programme requires a specific certification, audited environmental data, or a factory audit, raise it at the quotation stage and we will tell you plainly whether we can meet it.

Customer names, and keeping quotations consistent with this page

We name a customer, quote them, or list their logo only where that customer has given us permission to do so. The customer names on our About page are all published with permission. That is also why that list is shorter than our actual order book: the names you do not see are customers who have not agreed to be listed, not customers we do not have.

The same rule applies to numbers. Every commercial figure we put in a quotation matches what is written on this page, so a quotation can always be checked against it:

If a quotation ever states something that is not on this page, treat this page as the one that governs, and ask us to correct the quotation.

Questions buyers ask

Can we visit or audit the factory? Factory profile, certificate archive and buyer audit document support are available before production scales.

Which markets do you ship to today? China, Indonesia, the United States, Germany, Australia, and the United Kingdom, at over 100 x 40HQ containers a year.

Who prepares export documentation? We prepare carton marks, packing details and origin documentation. Destination-specific import duties and local supplier obligations remain with the importer.
